Where can people from the UK who watch Cesar’s dog whisperer programme on sky, get updated versions (to quote people on a previous question) and safer options that work permanently?
Is there a DVD out or which books should we be reading?

My parents are thinking about geting rid of my two dogs named Chi Chi & Sushi, i don’t want to have to read a huge book on how to train dogs so i decided to come here! We are moving to a house and my dad does not want to take the dogs if they are going to mess up the carpet, we bought a housethat is carpeted. I know what you are thinking just put them out side, we can’t because hey are inside dogs and they really don’t like the grass. So how can i train them to pee ad poop on the traing mats? I LOVE my dogs so much and if you would help me i will really appriciate it. Thanks for looking and if I like your answer i will put it as the best answer ever! Bye you can always reach me by email but if i don’t reply i have eiter seen it or deleted it, if you do decide to email me put on the subject line Chi Chi & Sushi.

Chi Chi (the terrier mix) and Sushi (the terrier Chewaw mix) have been going out side every four hours, is that good yes or no? My brothers have been helping me out alot!!

True Colors Shining Through: DNA Testing Mix Breed Dogs

What would happen if you had your dog’s DNA tested and discovered that your Siberian husky mix was really a golden retriever mixed with poodle and Dalmatian? Would you believe it? Would the new information change anything about the way you train, exercise and relate to your dog?

Many people are choosing to test the DNA of their mixed breed dogs to discover their animal’s true heritage. Many of those people are finding the results surprising.

Although the breed specific books often make generalizations like, “Dobermans are one man/woman dogs.” Or, “Pugs are stubborn and very hard to train.” Statements like this are not universal. There are characteristics that are prevalent in specific breeds. For example, most border collies are obsessed with balls and/or Frisbees and will herd all of the dogs at the dog park. But this is not the case for all border collies. In fact, if we collect data on 1,000 border collies, we’d see a ton of behavioral variability within the breed. Some are couch potatoes, some have no interest in fetching and some can’t be bothered to herd anything.

From a trainers perspective the heritage of a dog doesn’t change how I train. Every dog is an individual. Some are motivated by food, others go crazy over balls and some would rather play “tug” than do anything else. I use what works best to motivate the dog and try to teach the human good training skills.

There seems to be two consumer mindsets about DNA testing. One group of people just wants to appease their curiosity. Finding out the truth is exciting but in no way changes how they feel about their dogs. In fact, these people can often be found running around the dog park challenging other dog owners to guess the breed makeup of their dogs so that they can astound everyone with the true results.

The other camp seems to take a much more serious approach to the test results. Finding out that their dog is something other than what it was believed to be generates a slew of negative responses.

This group of people seems to have an emotional investment in what they believe to be true and learning otherwise is unacceptable. Oftentimes the results are so unbelievable that they think the information must be wrong and they have somehow been ripped off. To get a bird’s eye view of some of these responses go to Pissed Consumer You will be able to read consumer complaints sent to Wisdom Panel and the comopany’s responses.

For me, the results would quell my curiosity but otherwise wouldn’t change how I feel about my dogs or what we do together. I know what makes them happy, regardless of their true heritage.

So what do you think? Which camp would you be in? If you have a background in genetics, please chime in. Is it true that “DNA never lies?”

My family adopted a dog in January for my mum, as she’s been so down since our old dog died 3 years ago (he was 14 and it was his time, but she feels so bad, as she was the one with him when he was put to sleep).

Our new girl is a fantastic little thing – bouncy and full of fun, but a little naughty. Shes about 1, and does the whole "selective deafness" thing when off the leash, and is a crazy chewer.

We’ve booked her into a training class, but since then, people have given us conflicting advice. A breeder friend has said that just my mum should go, as the dog needs to learn to obey one person. But others have said both myself and my mum should go, to get the dog used to taking commands from different people.

What do you guys think? Are two people better, or will this just confuse her?

HELP!!!
Ok I have had my dog for about 11 months now. She is a pit dalmatian mix and is just turned 1. I have gone through 4 different dog trainers and ,000’s on training tricks and books. She is very hyper, above puppy hyper. Have you seen Marley and Me? if so then my dog makes Marley seem like an angel. She still pees and poops in the house, (which is our biggest concern) she wont stop barking at the door, she play bites and we have been telling her NO since we got her, she isn’t allowed on the couch but wont listen, she eats carpet, toys, shoes, jewelery, books, cords, blankets, pillows, the couch, kitchen table, you name it she has gotten a hold of it. I know she is smart because we were able to teach sit and stay and we can walk away and she will still stay. I think she chooses not to listen. She started a new habit of pooping on our bed and the pillows on the floor. She knows how to go out side and she gets rewarded when she does, but she still insists on going inside. Its gotten to the point to after we get back from our long walk when i get home from work she will automatically go into our bedroom and go immediately. I have kept her on the leash and at my side after our walk until we go again so she wont go to the bedroom as soon as i let her off the leash when we get back from our next walk she goes into the bedroom.
She is crate trained and is also now pooping in her crate.
I am so at the end with her and I could desperately use some guidance. Please help me.

Also
We have stayed persistent with her training. We wouldn’t have spent all that money and not followed through. All 4 trainers flat out gave up on her. She was on Prozac for the last 5 months and we just took her off it. The Prozac calmed her down enough to crate train her, but I didn’t like what it was doing to her so we went against the last trainer and took her off it.
We have emailed the Dog Whisperer and he is too busy to answer all his fan questions. We do watch his show and try things that we think may work on her.
We also have had her medically checked out. They gave her the clear. she is completely healthy!
And she goes to the dog park almost every night.. depending on my work schedule, but at least 4 nights a week
